Surface aerators are installed in a wide variety of treatment schemes including activated sludge systems, such as SBRs, MSBRs and extended aeration, as well as aerobic digesters, sludge holding, and equalization basins. Surface aerators are also incorporated into lagoon applications such as complete mix, partial mix (facultative) and dual-power multi-cellular systems.

Because mixing energy is separate from aeration energy, the surface aerator system permits a greater choice of reactor sizes and shapes. The system is well suited for new construction or retrofitting existing aeration basins.

Superior process efficiency can often be achieved with less overall horsepower which, in many applications, can result in significant energy savings. Short-circuiting and excess dissolved oxygen are eliminated.
